Biography

Dr. Shankar's research is focused on the application of experimental design, multiple regression analysis, time series analysis, categorical data analysis and multivariate analysis in health and social sciences research. She has developed temporal and spatial interpolation methods to merge two or more secondary datasets that do not have common geographical identifiers. These methods have allowed the successful merging of ambient air data collected from the EPA based monitoring network and individual records of hospital admissions. She has also worked extensively to develop spatial interpolation methods using ArcGIS and SAS to estimate missing data and used GIS mapping techniques for ambient air concentrations as well as incidences of chronic diseases. She teaches graduate level courses on campus in the traditional classroom settings as well as online courses in the distance learning programs using both asynchronous and synchronous format.
